Finnish DefenceTech Arctic RAVN secures €2.5 million in loan commitments before its first product launch

Arctic RAVN, an Espoo-based DefenceTech startup, has secured €2.5 million in convertible loan commitments, surpassing its original €2 million target in under a week.

The round, launched in October 2026, saw investor commitments arrive within just five days, a pace that is a reflection of mounting demand for European-made drone components as Western militaries push to reduce reliance on Chinese-origin supply chains.

“Investors committed to the round within days, even though we have not yet officially launched a single product,” said Matti Vansén, CEO, Arctic RAVN.

Arctic RAVN was founded in 2025 as a studio company within Finnish Defence House, a DefenceTech venture studio that identifies, funds and builds companies. The company manufactures drone electronics designed specifically for battlefield conditions, and its product range includes electronic speed controllers (ESCs), flight controllers (FCs), motors, and a modular frame system.

All products are engineered and assembled in Finland, with components sourced entirely from Europe and NATO-allied countries. The company explicitly positions itself as an answer to Western defence’s long-standing dependency on Chinese-origin drone components.

Arctic RAVN says it has already invested more than €1 million in scaling up manufacturing of its electronic speed controller and aims to produce tens of thousands of ESC units before the end of 2026, with a significant share already reserved by customers. The company says its customers already include several well-known European defence industry players, though it has not publicly named them.

With the next production phase, it plans to shift its focus to flight controllers. Arctic RAVN’s raise comes as European governments and NATO allies accelerate their effort to move away from Chinese-origin drone components and build indigenous drone supply chains.

Arctic RAVN structured the raise as a convertible loan, a financing instrument commonly used by early-stage companies that allows investors to convert their debt into equity at a later date, typically at a discount. With the loan commitments closing 25% above target without a single product launched, it shows demand for the company’s products and trust in its ability to execute.

“Follow-up orders and discussions with several leading defence manufacturers indicate a need for high-performance European drone electronics. We are now scaling our manufacturing capabilities for industrial-level output and strengthening Europe’s ability to produce critical drone electronics,” added Vansén.

The fresh capital will support two immediate priorities: production scale-up and product development. The startup says it has already received follow-up orders and is in active discussions with several leading European defence manufacturers.

It has set itself an ambitious target of annual production capacity of up to two million circuit boards per year, the scale that would immediately position it as one of Europe’s major producers of drone electronics.
