Danish BioTech Samplix secures €25 million in first close of financing round to scale antibody discovery

Samplix, a Danish BioTech company developing droplet microfluidics technology for functional single-cell analysis, has announced a €25 million first closing of a financing round.

The financing comprises €3 million in new capital and €22 million in shareholder convertible bonds. It was led by WLanholding GmbH, a privately owned European investment firm with participation from all major shareholders. The round remains open to additional investors with a total target of €30 million.

“We are excited to partner with Samplix at this pivotal stage of its growth. The team has built a differentiated single-cell technology platform that solves real, persistent challenges in drug discovery. We believe Samplix is well positioned to become a category leader, and we look forward to supporting the team as they scale their impact across the industry,” said Dr. Werner Lanthaler, founder and Managing Director of WLan.

As part of this new financing round, Dr Lanthaler, former CEO of Evotec, will join Samplix’s Board of Directors within the next year. He will work closely with the management team to guide the company’s next phase of growth.

Headquartered in Birkerød, Samplix was founded in 2013 with the vision of making high-throughput cellular screening accessible without specialised instrumentation. It develops microfluidics technologies for high-throughput, function-first single-cell analysis and provides droplet microfluidics technology for functional single-cell analysis in the biopharmaceutical sector.

Its core offering is the Xdrop platform, which encloses individual living cells and assay reagents in millions of tiny double-emulsion droplets. Each droplet acts as a miniature, self-contained reaction vessel, allowing researchers to observe cell behaviour. The company says its droplets are compatible with standard flow cytometry and cell-sorting equipment, enabling high-throughput analysis and sorting of functional droplets.

The platform is used across antibody discovery, immunotherapy, cell line development, genomic editing, and other functional single-cell research by both biopharmaceutical companies and academic research institutions worldwide.

According to Samplix, its platform is designed to address persistent pain points in early-stage drug development, chief among them being the difficulty of screening cells against hard-to-target proteins such as those embedded in cell membranes.

“This investment is a further validation of the value our Xdrop platform brings to the antibody discovery community. We are now in a strong position to further scale our platform, deepen our partnerships with biopharma and academia, and continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in single-cell workflows. This is an important milestone in our mission to make drug-discovery faster, simpler, and more reliable,” said Dr. Henrik Pfundheller, CEO of Samplix.

Samplix intends to use the new capital to strengthen its balance sheet and broaden commercial adoption of the Xdrop platform, particularly in the antibody discovery space. The company also sees a growing opportunity for its platform in AI-driven drug discovery, where large volumes of functional, cell-level data are needed to train predictive models.
