The funding, the amount of which was not disclosed, is contingent on match financing and will support Quinas Technology\u2019s expansion activities in Malta. The company is currently preparing its Seed funding round<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe are delighted to receive this commitment from the Malta Government Venture Capital. It <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">reflects Malta\u2019s ambition to support deep-tech companies at the forefront of semiconductor <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">innovation and provides an important foundation as we continue to scale ULTRARAM\u2122 <\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>towards commercial deployment,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>James Ashforth\u2011Pook<\/strong>, co\u2011founder and CEO of Quinas Technology.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Quinas Technology was founded in 2023 as a spinout from Lancaster University\u2019s Physics Department by James Ashforth\u2011Pook, Dr Peter Hodgson (CTO), and Prof. Manus Hayne.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The company is developing ULTRARAM\u2122, a patented ultra-low power non\u2011volatile memory technology that claims to combine the speed and endurance of DRAM with the persistence of flash memory, addressing critical bottlenecks in AI and edge\u2011compute systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>\u201cIt exploits a quantum-mechanical process called resonant tunnelling, allowing ULTRARAM\u2122 to deliver non-volatility with fast and energy-efficient write and erase, resulting in high endurance. This combination of properties was thought to be unachievable until now. ULTRARAM\u2122 has the non-volatility of flash, with a performance that is expected to exceed that of DRAM,\u201d<\/em> explains the company.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The company collaborates with leading academic and industrial partners to deliver advanced memory solutions for AI, edge, and secure computing applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Malta Government Venture Capital supports innovative, high\u2011growth companies that contribute to Malta\u2019s economic development and strategic technological priorities through equity and quasi\u2011equity investments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This support from MGVC forms part of Malta\u2019s strategy to attract high\u2011value, knowledge\u2011intensive technology companies and to strengthen the country\u2019s position in advanced semiconductor research, intellectual property development, and commercialisation, supporting the company\u2019s progression towards commercial deployment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Quinas Technology states that it is establishing a Maltese presence as part of a broader international growth strategy spanning the UK, Europe, and Asia. Malta will play a role in corporate structuring, strategic operations, and future commercial activity, notes the company.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A spokesperson for Malta Government Venture Capital added, <em>\u201cSemiconductors are a foundational technology for economic resilience and national competitiveness. Quinas Technology represents the type of high\u2011value, IP\u2011driven company that aligns with Malta\u2019s long\u2011term vision to attract advanced technology investment and talent.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Earlier this year, in April, Quinas Technology completed an Innovate UK\u2013funded project exploring the application of its proprietary ULTRARAM\u2122 technology to neuromorphic computing.
